Economic Development Meeting September 2016

Economic Development


Met at Winston City Hall

September 14,2016, at noon

Discussion items:


1. Branding- Baskets are down. We had breakdown of the watering cart. Sandy will talk to Josh regarding the take down of banners and put up of the Christmas Banners the first of November.
 
2. Brochures-Shaun Ryan of Inseschen will be asked to submit for brochures.

3.. City Urban Development Fund  report- The $400k was spent for the Elephant Walk funding. Plus 20k for expenses.The residences in the Junction Park will be allowed to stay for another year. The restroom remodel received 77k in state grant. Matching funds are being held to begin the project. WASP is holding the funds. The grant is a 60/40 grant. They are discussing improvements in the Cross Walks with ODOT and the county. They need better lighting and upgrades.

4. New Business  O'Reilly auto parts are coming next to Dollar General. They will break ground soon. 12 New homes are being built in the city this year. That is a great improvement over the past 5 years.

5. .Mike Winters is working on Khyam. Mike is talking with Knife River. Time is difficult to pin Knife River down.

6. RDI is doing the assessment. September 20th will be an assessment team meeting at 3:30 pm at the Community Center. A Community meeting is scheduled for October 12th at 6 pm in the Community Center. Previous meetings were rescheduled by RDI.
7.Safari is planning for October 14th and 15th a "Wild Land of the Umpqua" which will bring in Arts, Vintners, and anything to do with the Umpqua.

8. Discussed having the National Guard do a project in town. Wayne suggested a drill. Mark will contact the National Guard.

9. Feasibility study will be done on placement of the Police Station. Either Rose Street or the Fire Station.

10. Derelict buildings were discussed with a home on Main ST, VFW, Carries Diner and military surplus. County building department evaluated and determined they were not a safety risk. Concerns were expressed on the inability to remove these.

11.RV Park is proposed for the corner of Abraham and 42. It will be resort style with 30 day maximum stays, with possibly a % for longer term stays.

11. Next meeting will be Oct 12,2016.
